Just 2 more sleeps!

Wow I can't believe 5 months of training has gone by and the day of the event is fast approaching. I could not have done this without all the great support I have received from friends, family and coworkers. Thank you for all the generous donations, both large and small, every dollar makes a difference.

If this is the first time visiting my blog, take a moment and read through my journey. To make a donation, scroll down to the June 10th post and click on the link that will take you to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Team in Training page.

Check back late next week and I will have pictures posted and an update as to how I did.

Only a few more training Sundays left

Wow, I can't believe we are now winding down the training. This last Sunday we walked just short of 20 km in 3 hours 40 minutes. It was a great day for a walk. It started off raining, but by the time we got walking, it had stopped. The sun just started to peek out from behind the clouds as we were finishing up. So it wasn't too cold, and definitley not too hot. Our walk took us from Granville island, over the Burrard street bridge and around Stanley park. The scenery here is fantastic, and my walk mentor is the best. We have great chats as we are walking and before you know it, we are turning the corner to cross the bridge one more time to go back to Granville island.
In the next few weeks we will be tapering down our walks, so we are ready for event day.
Thank you everyone who has donated, and are helping me to reach my goal. I am half way there, and will continue to raise funds for about a month after the event. So if you have a friend looking to make a donation, let them know, it is never too late.

Long Weekend

Yesterday was another amazing walk. We completed 19km and had our best time yet, 3 hours 40 minutes. Now I know if you are a runner, that is a long time, but for a walker, like me, that is a pretty good time. The weather has been great for training, and recovery Mondays have been getting better. After such a long walk, you can imagine what my legs feel like the next day, but compared to what those who have cancer go through every day, it is nothing.
We are getting closer and closer to our event date, and I need everyones help to reach my goal, so dig deep in your pockets and help out. Every dollar brings hope!

August is almost over

August is almost over and I have been training every week. On Sunday's we do the long walks. This last weekend we walked 16 km. But the weekend before that we walked 24 km in about 4.5 hours. Not a very fast rate, but we completed the walk. Training is tough at times, but not as tough as what those who have cancer have to go through. To date I have put both my pelvis and right knee cap out of alignment. But it was nothing that a trip to the Chirpractor couldn't fix.
We are down to the wire for fundraising, so any of you who are thinking about sponsoring me, please click on my link and donate. The cut off is October 1/10 and our event is on October 17th. Please help me beat my goal and to do this in honor of my friends and family that have been touched by cancer.

Sunny Weather

Wow, it sure is great to have the sun... hope you are all wearing your sunscreen. On this coming Saturday I am having a Quilter's garage sale, but there will be other household items too. Look for it on Craig's list and in the North Shore news. Training is coming along. This coming Sunday we are doing 10km and it's gonna be warm. Thankyou to everyone for the donations so far, keep them coming.

Beautiful weather for a walk

Hi everyone,
On Sunday we did a 6 km walk and then went to the office where the Team in Training staff gave us some great fundraising ideas. Who is up for a bowling night? What fun would that be! We could have a fun family even of bowling. I will check this out and send out the invites. You get to have a great afternoon with you family, friends, and kids, and at the same time support a great cause.

My other fundraiser that I have going at the moment is a draw for a quilt. Tickets are $2.00 each, or 3 for $5.00. I will post a picture of the quilt as soon as can either figure out how to do that on this blog. lol

Also, anyone who wants to help me meet/beat my goal, I am collecting pop bottles etc. I would be happy to come to you to pick them up, or you can drop them off at my place.

Until next time,

Kate

Training is in full swing

Hi everyone,
Welcome to my Blog Spot. I hope you are able to use the link above to sponsor me for this wonderful cause. If not, please leave me a comment, and I will send you the link directly.

Training is in full swing. I have been walking two to three times a week. Sundays is our group training where we get together at Graville Island. What a beautiful city I live in. This last Sunday I did a 10km training walk. Have to eventually make my way up to 21.5 km for the big day in October. On Wednesday's I have been walking around the Boulevard here, in North Vancouver. Round trip from home is about 3.5 km. Now to start the hill training... walking home from work should give me some good hill training.

Check back often please as I work on my training.
And thanks for supporting me.
